About the Service
Hundreds of thousands of web users residing in closed societies around the world have been using various tools, known as anti-censorship or anti-jamming tools, to circumvent the Internet blockade created by totalitarian regimes. While the users enjoy their access to information with the aid of these tools, the traffic statistics to visited sites were only known to a small circle of people. So it was virtually impossible for the industry, the world’s nations, NGOs, and the academic community to utilize this information to further the progress of Internet freedom around the world. World's Gate (WG) took the lead in an effort to make the web site traffic ranking information available to the public. The Ranking service was created to present the ranking information of sites visited. The world-leading global anti-censorship network of Global Internet Freedom Consortium (GIFC) member companies enabled this work to happen. These companies carry more than 95% of the total anti-jamming Internet traffic used in closed societies, such as Iran, China, Cuba and North Korea. Not all tools of GIFC are included for the statistics yet. But the plan is to include data from all of them in the future. One can visit the Ranking service site and view histograms of web site rankings, based on the amount of traffic in Giga Bytes, number of page views, or number of server hits through GIFC network. One can also learn of the most popular web sites visited, as well as the most popular sites by categories and languages.
